Expectations for Students – Responsibility for Your Success
The Seven Principles for learning – by Arthur Chickering and Stephen Ehrmann
1
Stay in contact with the Instructor and other students
Ask questions early and often. Be knowledgeable on how to contact the Instructor and other students.
2
Develop interchanges and cooperation with other students
Cooperate, collaborate, and work effectively as a team member to enhance your learning and develop a community of learners.
3
Participate and be active in your learning
Be an active participant in your learning. Use your prior knowledge, skills, and experience to develop your learning.
4
Expect prompt feedback and provide feedback to the Instructor promptly
Focus on what you know and what you think you know. Review all feedback and use it to enhance your learning.
5
Spend the appropriate amount of time and effort on tasks
Time alone does not assist in the learning process. Put forth the time and effort required to learn the task at hand.
6
Expect high expectations and “live-up” to those expectations
Deliver on the course expectations. Be motivated to learn and prepare accordingly to reach the learning outcomes.
7
Respect diverse talents and ways of learning
Use your talents to benefit your own learning and the learning of others. Recognize others have various talents and learn in a variety of ways. Respect those talents and learning differences.
